Best of Oban 2.5 Hour Taster Tour
This 2.5-hour luxury tour of Oban showcases some of the most incredible scenery and history in Argyll. Relax and ride in comfort with your kilted driver and historian guide as you explore Dunstaffnage Castle, the Falls of Lora, Glen Lonan and Historic Kilbride.
This is one of Scotland’s oldest stone castles, built by the powerful Clan MacDougall, Lords of Lorn. The 13th century fortress is built on a stronghold of the ancient kingdom of Dál Raita and it is believed to have held the Stone of Destiny, the block used in the coronation of Scottish monarchs, before its transfer to Scone Palace. It also housed Jacobite heroine Flora MacDonald when she was arrested for aiding Bonnie Prince Charlie. Explore the ancient church and burial ground and see what it was like to live in a medieval Scottish castle.
Falls of Lora
Formed by Loch Etive flowing into the sea through a narrow rocky reef, huge volumes of water rush through with the tides, the Falls of Lora in Connel are a spectacular sight. It is crossed by an incredible cantilever bridge that was constructed for the Connel-Ballachulish Railway in 1903, and it was the second longest spanning railroad bridge in Britain, second only to the Forth Bridge. You might recognise it from the 1981 Donald Sutherland film Eye of the Needle.
This picturesque single lane road through lovely scenery is quintessentially Scottish, complete with mountain views, babbling rivers, waterfalls and maybe even Highland cows. Relax and take in the peaceful, sweeping vistas as we take the “back road” back to Oban.
Finish your tour at Oban’s most astonishing viewpoint- McCaig’s Tower. This vanity project designed and funded by an eccentric Victorian millionaire is Oban’s answer to the Coliseum, but just a bit quirkier. Built on Oban’s highest point, it boasts a tranquil garden and fantastic views over the town and the Inner Hebrides islands.
