Tickets go on sale for Tiree Music Festival (TMF) today, Thursday 1st March 2018. The festival will run from Friday 13th – Sunday 15th July 2018, and early bird tickets sold out in less than 48 hours in November for the multi award-winning festival.
Brand-new to TMF 2018 will be the ELEVATE STAGE. This new outdoor stage will showcase the best talent on the Scottish music scene with its line-up focusing on up-and-coming Scottish artists. As well as opportunities for young musicians performing on the stage, the festival has also appointed a Youth Artistic Programmer to take the lead on the programming of this stage.
Thirteen young people applied for the role of Youth Artistic Programmer at TMF and the organising team were amazed at the high calibre of entries. After much consideration Jamie MacDonald, who is from the Isle of Tiree and has recently graduated with first class BA Honours Degree in Applied Music, has been confirmed as the successful candidate. Jamie has a keen interest in the culture, music and language of the west coast of Scotland and he is passionate about creative arts, especially music and the traditional music scene.
Jamie said, “I am so delighted to have been appointed as the Youth Programmer for Tiree Music Festival. As a local to Tiree I have always attended the festival, whether as part of the crowd or playing as part of my own band, so it is a huge honour to be given this opportunity to become part of the organising team. I can’t wait to get started!”
The ELEVATE STAGE at Tiree Music Festival 2018 is supported by the Year of Young People 2018 event fund, managed by EventScotland and part of VisitScotland’s Events Directorate. During 2018 Scotland will put its young people in the spotlight, celebrating their talents, contributions and creating new opportunities for them to shine. The Year of Young People 2018 is a year-long programme of events and activities that will give young people in Scotland the opportunity to show the world what they are made of.
The first additions to the line-up have also been announced and include BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year winner Hannah Rarity, MG Alba Scots Trad Awards ‘Album of the Year’ winners Elephant Sessions, MG Alba Scots Trad Awards ‘Up and Coming Artist of the Year’ Hò-Rò and singer-songwriter Calum Mackenzie Jones who showcased at last year’s XpoNorth. Daniel Gillespie, Festival Director of Tiree Music Festival, said: “We would like to thank all of the young people who applied for the position of Artistic Programmer for the Elevate Stage, we were blown away with the entries. We’re really delighted to have appointed Jamie and we’re looking forward to working with him and seeing what new and exciting programming elements he will bring to the festival.
“It’s fantastic to be a small part of The Year of Young People and we’re really excited to be working with them to give younger generations the chance to shine, both on the stage itself and behind the scenes.”
