The Stirling Orchestra featuring Elliot Harris on trumpet and conducted by Stephen Broad, comes to Oban on March 7 at the Corran Halls.
The concert will feature Mendelssohn’s Symphony No.3 “Scottish”, Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto and Rossini’s The Thieving Magpie Overture.
Mendelssohn’s Symphony No.3 “Scottish” is of particular interest in Oban, from where the composer journeyed to the Hebrides. He visited Mull and Staffa and was so inspired by Fingal’s Cave on the latter, that he composed his overture about it.
Mendelssohn finished the “Scottish” in Germany in 1842, and his standout performance of it in London led to his receiving permission to dedicate it to one of his deepest admirers, England’s Queen Victoria.
See the Stirling Orchestra at Corran Halls, Oban on Saturday March 7 at 7:00pm.
Tickets: £10 (adult), £8 (conc), £5 (students with ID), £2 (children)
