Isle of Kerrera Tours

Our archaeologist and cemetery expert, Michelle, will lead you on a poignant walk of the Oban area's most historic graveyard and church ruin, Kilbride.

Celebrating Scotland's Year of Stories! Located three miles south of Oban in Lerags Glen, Historic Kilbride, the Kirk of St Brigid, played an important part in Scotland’s history, and is connected to figures such as Robert Bruce, Alexander II and the Clan MacDougall.

Kilbride was a thriving community, millennia before Oban, and there has been a Christian church here since the at least the 6th century. Before that, it was sacred to the Celtic pagan goddess, Brigid.

The current ruin partly dates to the 13th century, when Kilbride was mainland Argyll's most important church. There are some 319 known graves at Kilbride, dating from as far back as the 1200s to the present day. It is also the final resting place for the chiefs of Clan MacDougall.

Private walking tours lasting 1.5 hours are available for any size group. £50 for 1 to 6 people, £8pp additional guests.

A guided stroll through Kilbride graveyard reveals more than meets the eye, with a story around each corner, along with beautiful views and tranquillity. Learn the story of Scotland and Argyll through the stories of real people of all walks of life, from everyday struggles and victories, to epic set pieces of Scottish history, such as the Jacobite Uprising, the Clearances and the birth of the British Empire. The tour begins with a short film introducing you to the site.
